More info about the Dominos pizza menu: The Life and Times of the Dominos pizza menu

Dominos pizza menu
This article will look back over the life and times of the Dominos pizza menu. It will first
discuss the first Dominos pizza menu in its earliest form at the first Dominos restaurant, and
then follow it throughout the years as it has changed and evolved. It will look at the Dominos
pizza menu lists at different Dominos pizza locations throughout the world with a particular
emphasis on the Dominos pizza menu in Australia, New Zealand, and the United States of
America.
Dominos pizza menu in the early years:
Dominos pizza wasn’t always known by this name. Originally the first restaurant was
called DomiNick’s and it was purchased by Tom and James Monaghan in 1960 in Ypsilanti
Michigan in the US. Eight months after, James sold his half of the company and Tom took
full control. In 1965 he renamed the business Dominos, and in 1967 he opened the first
franchise. Little known fact, the original idea was to have a new dot added to the logo as
each new restaurant was opened, but the popularity of Dominos grew too fast that this soon
become implausible and the idea was scrapped. The Dominos menu was still very small at
this time, only offering basic pizza and soft drinks, but this soon changed.
Mid years:
Dominos grew very popular very quickly and in 1978 it opened its 200th store. However, it
took until 1983 when it opened its first of many international stores, Winnipeg in Canada.
Also that same year Dominos opened its 1,000th store. The stores kept growing and in
1997 the 1,500th international Dominos pizza store opened. As of mid-2011there are 9,000
Dominos stores worldwide. Its touch is being felt by 60 countries and Dominos is open in
every US state.
Soon after the 1,500th international store opened Tom Monaghan decided to retire. He sold
93 per cent of the company to Bain Capital Inc for approximately 1 billion dollars. At this
stage Tom decided to have little more to do with the company, although he came back to
help in 2001 after the company suffered hardship. Nowadays Tom spends his time with his
religious and political views and aims to spend his fortune helping the less fortunate. David
A. Brandon is now the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
In 2004 the company began trading on the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) as DPZ with a
range of between 24 and 25.
Changes to the Dominos pizza menu:
Dominos pizza menu did not undergo many significant changes early on in its life. In 1989
it added deep pan pizza size to the range, and in 1993 they trailed The Dominator, a 30-slice,
yard-long pizza. However, since then the Dominos pizza menu has expanded quite a lot. In
2002 they added bite sized spicy Buffalo wings to the menu. The Buffalo Chicken Kickers
came with two sauces, but the range has thus increased in many stores to add more spice or
different flavours. This was the first inclusion of a side to the Dominos menu that used to
only contain pizza and soft drink. In 2003 they released the Philly Cheese Steak Pizza and
2006 saw the Brooklyn Style Pizza take its place as a Dominos pizza. The Philly Cheese
Steak was to target the Philadelphia crowd while the Brooklyn pizza was made especially to
emulate the traditional New York style pizzas. These are made with crunchier, thinner dough
that makes longer pizzas that can be folded.
In 2009 Dominos started rolling out healthier brands of Pizza in Australia and New Zealand.
These included the ‘good choices’ range of single serve pizzas with toppings such as Prawn
& Spinach Ciabatta Pizza, BBQ Chicken & Mushroom Ciabatta Pizza, Chicken, Tomato &
Oregano Ciabatta Pizza. They also added mineral water to the drinks menu in selected stores
as well as lighter alternatives to the soft drinks.
Also in Australia, Dominos launched a new School Pizza campaign, offering pizza’s that
conformed to the new, stricter school foods regulations. The Dominos menu is slightly
different in every country. Because the company is franchised, every Dominos restaurant
has to be the same in the basics, but each operator/owner has the ability to add or take away
different menu items that don’t work well within an individual country. The Indian Dominos
restaurant relies heavily on vegetarian pizzas while the Dominos in Cardiff Bay Wales has a
range of dessert waffles.
The Dominos pizza menu:
The Dominos pizza menu changes from country to country depending on what fruits and
meats are available and what the Dominos pizza number one pizza is for that area. The
most common item on the Dominos pizza menu is the Hawaiian or ham and pineapple.
This pizza appears on every menu at every Dominos location around the world, and most
likely it appears at every other pizza establishment, too. Dominos uses the freshest pineapple
available for this pizza, although in some parts of the world it will be fresher than at other
parts. The ham has changed in the sweeps of 2010 and has been replaced with rasher cuts
of better quality ham. Hint: add jalapeños for a little bit extra (where available) to make a
volcanic Hawaiian pizza. Local knowledge: the Irish put mushrooms on their Hawaiian pizza.
Another popular staple at every Dominos pizza menu is the peperoni pizza. These can be
cooked in many different ways depending on the cook, the restaurant, and the availability of
the peperoni. The most common way of cooking it is to combine the meat and the cheese, but
some stores offer double layering. Double layering a pizza means that there is one base layer
of cheese then a layer of meat then cheese again and then meat again. Naturally, this type of
pizza is not very healthy although it is quite delicious. The double layering can also be done
with ham and cheese pizzas, too.
A distinctly American offering, the Wisconsin 6 Cheese Pizza is available on the Dominos
pizza menu in most of the 50 American states. The Wisconsin 6 is a vegetarian offering that
adds a twist to the normal ‘cheese’ pizza; instead of just mozzarella and cheddar this one
uses mozzarella, cheddar, feta, provolone, asiago, and parmesan on a parmesan and asiago
crust. This is best on the thin crust although you can get a thicket crust if you want. Another
Americanism at the Dominos pizza menu is the Philly Cheese Steak Pizza. This was a new
addition to the menu in 2003 and they have never looked back. This pizza harks back to the
good ol’ Philly days where no one cared about their cholesterol intake and they ate as much
as possible. Tender and delicious slices of premium steak are the signature of this pizza,
although the onions, mushrooms and green peppers work together to create an exciting twist
in the tastebuds.
Because not all American pizzas are full of bad things health wise, the Pacific Veggie Pizza
is a welcome addition to this short list of Dominos pizza menu items. This is a vegetarian
pizza that can be cooked on a gluten free dough if the customer requests. It comes with
tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, roasted red peppers, onions, and black olives with feta and
provolone cheeses. You can mix and match with the sauce if you want, so go a little different
next time and try BBQ instead of tomato or mix the two together.
Dominos pizza menu overseas is just as diverse as the people who run the restaurants. In
Australia the laid back attitude comes to life with the Satay Veg pizza. This is the perfect dish
for the vegetarians who hate the bland offerings from other pizza restaurants. Mushroom,
tomato, pineapple, capsicum, spinach, and onion topped with mozzarella with satay sauce
makes this dish one that everyone loves, not just vegetarians. Add some olives and extra
onion to make this an Italian Satay or add jalapeños to create a spicy Satay delight.
Aussies are known for doing it big when the need comes, and with the Supreme pizza on the
Dominos pizza menu you can see it come to life. This pizza is basically the ‘I’ll take one of
everything’ dish, wish so many toppings that come as standard: rasher bacon, pineapple,
Pepperoni, mushroom, ground beef Italian, sausage, capsicum, mozzarella & oregano are just
the beginning of this awesome dish. For a little bit extra you can double what you see here or
add extra’s like jalapeños, chicken, and sundried tomato to name a few.
It wouldn’t be an Australian Dominos pizza menu without The Aussie: egg, onion, Rasher
bacon, and tomato and mozzarella cheese on BBQ sauce. This is the staple on many
Australian pizza restaurants, but none do it better than Dominos.
Another true ‘down under’ delight is the prawn dishes. From the traditional garlic prawn
dish on a pizza to the Prawn, Bacon & Feta (prawns, bacon, feta, tomato, capsicum, oregano,
garlic olive oil, mozzarella and chilli flakes), as well as the new Prawn, Feta & Alfredo
(Prawns and feta with spinach, tomato, capsicum, mozzarella & oregano on Alfredo sauce)
and the Satay Prawn (prawns, mushrooms, pineapple, mozzarella, chilli flakes on satay
sauce), Dominos in Australia is the perfect place to find the perfect prawn pizza.
Across the Tasman and the New Zealand Dominos has a roaring good pizza menu available.
On your way to see the hobbits treat yourself to a ‘Mr Wedge’; potato wedges, ham and
onion with BBQ sauce, mozzarella, oregano, fresh garlic & a mayonnaise swirl. Whoever
says potato doesn’t go with pizza has obviously never tried Mr Wedge.
For the more adventurous there is the Fire Breather available on the Dominos pizza menu.
Not to be messed with, the Fire Breather comes with jalapeños, Italian sausage, shredded
cotto, onion, fresh tomato, pepperoni, mozzarella and chilli flakes. The timid can try this one
without the chilli flakes or with half the jalapeños if they wish.
Not a traditional New Zealand dish but a fast winner on the Dominos pizza menu is the
Apricot Chicken pizza. Chicken capsicum, onion, mozzarella and an apricot swirl all work
together to delight the senses in this not very traditional pizza.
Not to be outdone, the Irish come out swinging with a great range of pizzas available both
in store and by delivery. Most of these are available in all of the UK, but make sure to
check with your local store to avoid disappointment. The Dublin signature dish Reggae
Reggae™ comes with Reggae Reggae sauce, roast chicken, green peppers, pineapple and
tomatoes. You can make this a vegetarian option by getting rid of the chicken and you can
add to the firepower of the green peppers by adding jalapeños. Another signature on the
Dublin Dominos pizza menu is the Full House®. This pizza comes with a bit of everything:
sweet corn (also called Indian corn, sugar corn, and pole corn), ground beef, pineapple,
mushrooms, peperoni, onions, green peppers, sausage and ham. Sweet corn isn’t a traditional
pizza topping item, but then again there was a time when pineapple or potato on pizzas was
mocked, too. Give this one a try before you knock it, you might find that it’s the best pizza you’ve ever had.
Dominos Dublin’s Hot & Spicy is a traditional hot and spicy dish that comes with such
toppings as ground beef, green peppers, onions, and jalapeños. A hot and spicy pizza is fast
becoming a staple at many Dominos restaurants. Dominos didn’t really have a need for a spicy pizza what with their Chicken Kickers, but this was an addition requested by customers so they listened.
Most of these pizzas are available on gluten free bases and their availably is subject to
change. Visit your local Dominos website to see what your store has, but remember that you
can pick and choose some toppings so what they don’t have as an actual pizza you may be
able to make for yourself.
Non-pizza on the Dominos pizza menu:
Traditionally, Dominos only had pizza and soft drink on the menu, but as you can see that
has grown quite significantly. In 2008 Dominos launched their Dominos sandwiches lines.
These are subs that are filled with the pizza toppings, and this range has grown significantly
over the years. In many American stores there is a limited range but overseas you can request
any pizza be turned into a sandwich. Dominos pizza specials of the time included free
sandwiches to customers named Jared to compete with Subway.
In 2009 the dessert range was expanded with the Lava Crunch Cake dessert (warm fudge
inside a crunchy chocolate shell) and the entree line was expanded with ‘BreadBowl’ pasta
in the US. The ‘BreadBowl’ pasta involved a range of popular pasta dishes served inside a
toasted bread bowl rather than a dish. Other countries adapted the pasta dishes as both an
entree and a meal but the BreadBowl idea did not catch on well in some parts. Other non-
pizza items on the Dominos pizza menu include salads, breadsticks, wedges, potato chips,
and the traditional pizza companion; garlic bread.
Dominos changes:
In 2009 an American survey revealed that Dominos was ranked as the worst tasting pizza in
America, and surveys in other countries soon revealed the same thing. Dominos quickly set
out to change this perception by first advertising that they were aware of this problem and
then vowing to change their pizza “from the crust up”. This meant an entire overhaul of the
pizza from the dough to the sauce. Basically, Dominos changed everything about their Pizza,
but this resulted in a large spike in revenue so it was seen as a good thing overall. They were
named “Chain of the Year” in ‘Pizza Today’s’ 2010 edition.
Some stores around the globe began opening as eat-in restaurants as well as pick up/delivery,
but this is a slow change that has yet to make it to many restaurants worldwide. In 2009 some
countries added the ‘pizza tracker’ to their websites where people could track the progress
of their pizza from initial dough stage through to baking. This was to help people get to the
restaurants while their pizzas where fresh out of the oven as well as to stop people arriving
when their pizza was not ready.
Dominos coupons:
Dominos was one of the first chains to release coupons for their pizzas in the mail as well as
in the newspapers. Dominos pizza coupons give the customer money off of the Dominos
pizza menu as well as discounts when buying a meal (pizza, garlic bread, drink) and even
free delivery. A domino pizza coupon comes with Dominos pizza coupon codes that change
every month or coupon turn, so to discourage people using faked or old coupons to get
cheaper pizzas. Some chains accept competitors coupons, but it’s best to ask. Coupons for
Dominos pizza can be found in junk mail, newspapers, and sometimes on the website. You
can get them e-mailed to you if you join up to the Dominos e-mail list. For some stores in the
US you don’t need a coupon to get a good deal. When entering your order the computer will
suggest ways to create a good deal and offer you coupons.
Dominos nutrition facts:
Dominos nutrition information is available at their website and sometimes in store.
The ‘good’ choices range in Australia was designed to help health conscious people to choose
pizzas that fit in with their lifestyle. The ‘good choices’ pizzas are smaller than traditional
serves and are all less than 400 calories. The American Dominos website allows customers
to view the calorie count of their pizza and even construct their own to keep the number
of calories. The Dominos Ireland site has an online book to help customers learn about
nutrition and telling them which foods (including some of their own) that people who are
worried about their weight should avoid. Dominos restaurants worldwide have their allergen
information prominently displayed both in store and at Dominos pizza online. The Dominos
pizza menu doesn’t include many items that cover the most common allergies yet every store
has done their best to ensure that no one will get sick or have a bad reaction from eating one
of their pizzas. Many restaurants have released gluten free bases.
Prices:
The Dominos menu prices vary from country to country and are subject to change at any
time. In New Zealand value pizzas start at $9.90, traditional from $11.90, and premium from
$14.90. Pastas and subs start from $7.90, and sides begin at $3.90 for garlic bread or chips to
$9.90 for a ten pack of chicken kickers.
In the UK pizzas start from €19.90 and a set of four cookies is €2.95.
In the US pizza’s start from as little as $10.24 nd go up to around $17.49. Pastas are all
around $5, sandwiches $5.99, and desserts $3.99.
The prices can change at any time and are all current at the time of writing. Prices change
depending on the type of base, if any extra toppings are added, and if combined in a meal.
Delivery is charged on top of the price for the pizza and the delivery charge does not include
a tip for the driver.
There is more to Dominos than just Dominos pizza. Dominos is about giving back to the
community and helping out those in need. Across the globe many Dominos restaurants are
involved in local charity work with community groups, and at a corporate level Dominos
supports the Make-a-Wish Foundation of America and St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
In the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks, Dominos provided around 12,500 pizza’s to
relief workers at the World Trade Center and The Pentagon.
Dominos started off as a small pizzeria and is now one of the largest fast food chain
restaurants in the entire world. Through their timeless advertising campaigns to their charity
work, to changing with the time and listening to customer suggestions, Dominos has proven
that they are a company that can withstand anything.
